I recently wrote a long post on Savage Minds simply as preparation for what I anticipate will be a long and fruitless battle to change the Wikipedia page on Thuggees. At the same time, I think it is impossible to have just one “authoritative” source. Even Knols are dependent on the “wisdom of the crowd” for their Google Pagerank, which is what will determine which pages get read. I do like the idea of requiring some kind of CC license for Knols. I also think its worth pointing out that Wikipedia is very good for technical knowledge and Japanese Animee, etc. its just less well suited for critical perspectives on history. But my guess is that it does better on that ground than traditional print encyclopedias ever did.
