I remember the smurfs with much fondness, especially that one video we got from Karen Ann, where they have this magic flute that makes people dance until they fall asleep. It was just such a bizarre story.

Makes me wanna take another look at the smurfs, though. I for one tend to lean towards social liberalism in all aspects of politics.

I guess I never thought of them as a socialist society, although I did notice that they did have pretty good division of labor, although Handy Smurf and Papa Smurf were the only ones that ever did anything useful. (That opinion probably shows I was destined to be an engineer, even early in life)

I never thought about it too much at that age, since I was prepubescent and didn’t have much curiosity about sex, but I always thought it was really wierd that there was only one girl smurf, and even she didn’t show up until part way through the series. But it was a children’s show, so I suppose I shouldn’t read too much into that.
