My mom is from Korea and keeps harping on my visiting relatives there...but I haven't been for a variety of reasons. Believe it or not, this is one of the smaller ones. I have nothing against selling dogmeat if the animals in question are butchered in a humane way. But if I ever saw any animal beaten to death...I'd go ape $#!+ and probably arrested for assault. A lot to admire about Korea and its people, but as progressive as they are in some areas...they can be a little backwards as well. Any hormones released by fear and pain would be cooked out of the meat before consumption. Completely unecessary and a shame. My own mother still refuses to see a doctor and insists on drinking foul powders, ground antlers, and royal bee jelly for all her ailments. Sometimes I catch her looking at my chihuahuas askance and shudder. ;-)

Being forced to sell your dog for food... that would be sufficiently psychologically scarring for a child, I would think.

As for cats playing with mice before they kill them because it makes it taste better... I'm going to call BS on that one. I think just some explanation dealing with hunter instinct and teaching thier kittens how to hunt sounds much more plausible.

A Korean friend of mine explained that the word 팔다, which usually means "to sell" can also mean, "to buy" - and especially older generations and in earlier days, it was frequently used to mean "to buy."
