I’ll gear this review to two types of folks: latest Zune proprietors who are thinking about an update, and individuals making an attempt to determine between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players well worth taking into consideration out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this provides you enough data to make an knowledgeable choice of the Zune vs gamers other than the iPod line as nicely.)

Thanks for posting about this, Mitch! I read about the alternate version of 君が代 a few days ago, but dismayed that I couldn't quickly find any links to the lyrics themselves. I agree that the new lyrics are pathetic. What we need is the guy that did hyakugojyuuichi to do something. Those alternate lyrics are really quite good. I think it's probably best done by someone that doesn't know Japanese and phonetically learns the song.

I don’t have the creativity to contribute on this one, but I’d just like to say that we sang “subversive” versions of the Spanish national anthem on the playground as kids and never started any revolutions. Just sayin’. It went something like this:

> Franco, Franco, que tiene el culo blanco,
> Porque su mujer lo lava con Ariel.
> Doña Sofía lo lava con lejía,
> Y Doña Borbón lo lava con jabón.

A little Google searching shows that there are *many* versions of the lyrics, because the Spanish national anthem doesn’t have any official ones. Most are critical of Franco, the oppresive socialist dictator who ruled Spain up through 1978 before handing over rule to the previously deposed monarch’s grandson, now the current king, to the joy of the majority of the population. Here is a set of lyrics that amuses me:

> Arriba España, alzad los brazos hijos
> Del pueblo español, que Franco es un cabrón.
> Gloria a la patria que siguió la democracia
> Y no siguió el camino del mamón.
