Definitely one of the most important writers of the 20th century. He really anticipated a lot in the way of criticism and philosophy.

How about Neruda? Not as philosophically inspired, but one of the half dozen great poets of the 20th century.

I had a similar reaction when I read Good Soldier Svejk in a class this last semester. I’ve read a lot. How is it possible I never heard of Jaroslav Hasek?
